What is Islands of LA's Intention?

There are numerous ongoing projects that are part of Islands of LA such as the declaration of traffic Islands as a Nat'l Park, Shift Do Art Anytime, I Was Here/Right In Public , Who Creates Public Space?, and a mapping of the traffic islands in Los Angeles . Other projects will be added over time. These projects center on traffic islands but also have elements that may exist in private space and online. These different elements combine to create a public sphere generated by turning traffic islands into territories of art and interchange.
