Prisoner Island

Across the street from the federal Metropolitan Detention Center in downtown LA, in a sea of concrete is a little traffic island known as Prisoner Island. This island has a constant flow of individuals on their way to the detention center, immigration building or courthouse.

It is also home to a number of inhabitants who communicate with family & friends who are in the detention center. Per-Johan Dahl, a Doctoral Student at UCLA's Department for Architecture and Urban Design, wrote a brief article (posted on the blog) about the interchange between family & friends with inmates. Island of LA has also visited the island to speak with the inhabitants and as working on a short video of the island.
