Island Walking & Jogging Crew

Introducing the Islands of LA Walking & Jogging Crew, which engages in law-abiding walking & jogging activities on traffic islands where walking and jogging are the only permitted public activities, such as the islands in Santa Monica.  The intention of the crew is to be a responsible, activated group that uses art while walking (or jogging) on traffic islands to generate cultural interchanges and revitalizes public space.

The first Island Walking & Jogging Crew activity will be on 3/9 as part of the I Was Here installation in the Highways show.  The activity begins in Highways.  We will meet in the gallery to see the context that brings up the issue of identity and public writing and a workshop on making stencils/signs where everyone will make their own little sign.

Following the workshop, we will go to a nearby island and walk in small groups while chatting about the topic and installing our personal, little signs.  To participate or comment on the crew, please visit the blog.
